Thoughts
Today was a high hunger day. I couldn’t stop thinking about food. But I have had a weekend of wining and dining and so I have noticed that it usually takes a couple of days for my hunger levels to calm back down again. But this is the great thing about the Paleo Diet, you can lose weight even if you have a couple of days off. My weight was higher than normal today but again this was because I had drunk wine and my body water percentage was a lot higher. I imagine over the next couple of days it will drop down rapidly.
One dilemma I have been having is trying to find the calories and fat in grass fed beef. I have looked on the internet for calories in New Zealand beef, which is grass fed, and just plain grass fed beef. If anyone has this information can you please post it. Thanks in advance.
Im finally starting to learn to buy cheaply on paleo now too. I am buying canned fish in bulk and this helps. I am typically buying the most oily fish that I can and those fish that are lowest in the food chain. So typically herring and sardines. This is good because oily fish are high in omega 3’s and getting fish that are low in the food chain means we are not wiping out our wild fish stocks. These smaller fish tend to breed quicker than fish that are higher up on the food chain (ie tuna, salmon etc) and so their populations recover rapidly and are more resistant to overfishing. I am also buying lots of eggs. I am eating way more than I should be but the fact is they are a cheap substitute for meat. Then of course there are organs. Thankfully, no body likes them and so they are very cheap and also very nutritious, exploding with vitamins, minerals and that all important Omega 3. So those are my strategies at the moment. If anyone else has tips let me know!
I should have my blood lipid profile tomorrow and so that should be very interesting!
Food
So here is the abundance of food that I ate today. First off I had an apple and my fish oil tablets. I was still feeling a little seedy after the wines last night so I was not hungry at the start. For lunch I heated up some of the lamb meatballs that my flatmate had made for our dinner party last night. I can’t tell you what was in them as I didn’t make them but they were very yummy. I had them with some baby spinach.
This actually filled me up quite well and apart from some mandarins I didn’t get hungry again until 4pm. But when I did get hungry it was major hunger. I went up to the supermarket and got a pot roast and some blueberries and we already had some red wine left over from last night. So I put the pot roast into about a cup of red wine and simmered it in a saucepan for 30 mins. In the red wine I added some cloves, a bay leaf, garlic, peppercorns and rosemary. At the end I increased the temperature until boiling and reduced the red wine down to about half and then added in some olive oil and frozen blueberries until warm.
It was delicious but I was still hungry. So I boiled some eggs and had them on some baby spinach leaves mixed with some flaxseed oil. This did the trick and my hunger levels died down.
